Okay but for realz, for realz all jokes aside.. Cubans are hardworking, humble, and inviting people. I only felt uncomfortable on ✌🏽occasions: • 1️⃣As I mentioned before we pretty much walked everywhere ..all of #OldHavana which meant going down alleyways, touristy + non-touristy (pictured above). There were some that I did feel like Oo maybe we shouldn’t go down this way👀 and so we would keep walking till we saw more people #bettersafethansorry . No one bothered us, don’t get me wrong! Just got a couple long stares from some boos😅. Apparently I look Cuban, de el Oriente pero no se me quita lo de tourista ..#notyouraveragetourist though #dontgetittwisted ! • 2️⃣To be blunt, Cubans are hustlers! For decades they were blocked off from most of the world w/ a dual currency system that only benefited the wealthy (read 11/1 post on💰 so that the following makes sense). The avg gov’t job per month pays ~$600CUP, that’s ~$24CUC. Ask yourself, what can you do for your family w/ $24/month, 🤯 which would convert to even less in dollars!! Understandably so, many Cubans resort to street hustling to make ends meet. You’ll find yourself bombarded by some to get you to eat at their paladar or shop at their store. These folks are referred to as “jineteros.” It was uncomfortable + overwhelming to have so many people on you at once, but once you understand why, you are able to understand the culture and way of life. This is a good transition to your #1 question, “did you like Cuba/would you go back?” Part✌🏽 coming next on my final Cuba post #staytuned .
