This is a photograph of the Never Summer Mountains in summer. ☀️⛰😊
”Have you also learned that secret from the river; that there is no such thing as time? That the river is everywhere at the same time, at the source and at the mouth, at the waterfall, at the ferry, at the current, in the ocean and in the mountains, everywhere and that the present only exists for it, not the shadow of the past nor the shadow of the future.” -Hermann Hesse (1877-1962) Siddhartha
"Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul." -John Muir (1838-1914) Naturalist, Author

"Earth and sky, woods and fields, lakes and rivers, the mountain and the sea, are excellent schoolmasters, and teach some of us more than we can ever learn from books." - Sir John Lubbock (1834-1913) Vice chancellor, University of London
"Wilderness is an anchor to windward. Knowing it is there, we can also know that we are still a rich nation, tending our resources as we should — not a people in despair searching every last nook and cranny of our land for a board of lumber, a barrel of oil, a blade of grass, or a tank of water." -Clinton P. Anderson (1895-1975) Senator, New Mexico
"If future generations are to remember us with gratitude rather than contempt, we must leave them something more than the miracles of technology. We must leave them a glimpse of the world as it was in the beginning, not just after we got through with it." -Lyndon B. Johnson
Moose hunting in State Forest State Park...with my camera. I witnessed their sign, though didn’t shoot any this trip. Ah well! I got to walk through a lot of great moose habitat and we know they’re there—being elusive.
Much love to my Colorado family! Thank you all for your hospitality, laughs and love. Wonderful adventures were had and memories made! To those of you I missed, I hope our paths will cross again soon.
I got my monies worth out of this rental car! More than 800 miles in five days—many of which were on dirt and gravel roads in National Forests and Colorado State Parks. I can recommend the 2019 Toyota Corolla as a speedy, tough and fuel efficient ride.
“Laws change; people die; the land remains.” - Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865)
I was photographing bees when I saw a flicker out of the corner of my eye. Turning, I noticed two hummingbird moths drinking nectar from Thistle flowers with their long proboscis. After a little research I discovered that this is referred to as the White-lined sphinx moth, and I was in their preferred habitat—alpine meadows full of wildflowers.
Rifle Falls Ranch didn’t display the first bull’s skull mounted on a gate that I passed on my drive to the state park, but this one necessitated a brief photo stop.
I hiked up here to Thomas Lake and cooled off by taking a swim.
The wildflowers are beyond words.
‘Colorado’ means “Color Red.” Today, Colorado is ALL OF THE COLORS!
I loved the rocky fins that jutted up from the earth—giant plates turned on their side then severed by water.
