A. I. R. E. (Asociación Integral de Rescate en Emergencias) ONG independiente y sin ánimo de lucro, conformada por un equipo multidisciplinar de profesionales que ofrecen ayuda humanitaria en situaciones límite y desarrollan proyectos de cooperación de manera altruista.

Su principal es la disminución del sufrimiento de las personas en situaciones de plena vulnerabilidad, víctimas de catástrofes naturales, conflictos, guerras... prestando especial atención a mujeres y niños. 🕹️ Dónde enviaremos la comida recogida? 👉 Se enviará al proyecto "Humanidad" de Atenas, proyecto que comparten con varias ONG's. El objetivo es la atención integral (refugio, cuidado de las necesidades básicas, salud y educación) junto con el acompañamiento psicosocial.

In post-war Europe there were millions of displaced persons (known as DPs) who had to be repatriated to their countries of origin. Their welfare, rehabilitation, and repatriation were the responsibility of the UNRRA, the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration, established in 1943. Many Jewish survivors made their way back to their former homes only to find that they had no family, home, or community to which to return. Moreover, the rampant anti-Semitism that manifested itself even in pogroms in post-war Eastern Europe, clearly demonstrated that there was no going back.

The UNRRA originally wanted to send Jewish child survivors to various countries offering asylum, however the influx of thousands Jewish children was simply too great. When they reached the American Zone of occupation, they were often already grouped together by either Zionist or other Jewish ideological movements. Their renewed education was geared towards making aliyah to Palestine. Aschau children’s camp was affiliated with the Mizrahi (the religious-Zionist movement) and it became the centre of religious life in the American Zone, offering courses in kosher cooking and child development, a vocational centre, religious schools and yeshivas, as well as youth and children’s groups. Aschau existed from early 1946 until the summer of 1948, shortly after which it was reopened as a rehabilitation centre.

The 3rd film in the series about Yemeni refugees, ‘Family' is a story about a young family who escaped the war in Yemen in search of a safer place to live.
Leaving Yemen was a tough decision but they were left with little choice due to the raging war. A fathers love for his family comes above everything and he wants to provide them with a future not currently possible in his home country.
Throughout the film, we listen to the fathers thoughts, as he shares his feelings about the war and why he left with his family. Guys from Afghanistan are playing sangirag - traditional Hazaragi game - just outside of the Moria refugee camp.
As Sahil (16) said, they are all orphans whose parents died during the war usually. He personally lost his parents in a car accident when he was a kid.

Lesvos, a Greek island at a distance of 8 km from Turkey.
It serves as a regular entry point for refugees crossing the Aegean Sea from Turkey to Europe.
They cross the sea at night with a great risk of getting hypothermia (during winter) or death.

In 2016, some states in the European Union decided to close their internal borders to refugees, most of whom originated from war zones like Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan.
Now nearly 100,000 refugees lives are on hold, unable to do anything but wait.

In Lesvos is situated the biggest refugee camp in Europe, Moria, with about 5,000-6,000 inhabitants at the moment (Jan 2019). There is also Kara Tepe camp run by a municipality with about 1,000 inhabitants with better living conditions than in Moria. For weeks, months or even years refugee camps in Lesvos are homes for a few thousands refugees from Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Syria, Yemen, Somalia and other third world countries.

For Europe this problem does not seem to exist anymore and officaly there are no more refugees coming to Lesvos. But for the people running away from their countries due to war or for other reasons serching for a better future for themselves and their children this is a problem.
Just in January 2019, according to Lighthouse Relief, 247 refugees came to the north shore of Lesvos.

Casco Art Institute: Working for the Commons will present two new exhibitions this spring as part of its biennial exhibition program: Two Rubatos, an experimental, sound-focused solo exhibition with work by artist Terre Thaemlitz, and Footnotes on Equality, a collective exhibition about art and research by members of GRACE - Gender and Cultures of Equality in Europe in collaboration with the Rotterdam architecture and design collective Cookies. The exhibition program will open on Friday 8 March 2019, International Women's Day, from 17.00 to 20.00 in Casco Art Institute, as part of the GRACE conference "Gender and Cultures of In / Equality in Europe", 7-9 March 2019 at Utrecht University .

Both exhibitions are in line with Poetics of Living, one of Casco's study lines on art and commoning practices, co-initiated by Rizvana Bradley. In Poetics of Living we explore non-normative and non-binary ways of living together in view of the rapidly changing discourses on sexuality, health, community life and death.

Footnotes on Equality, an exhibition by GRACE researchers in collaboration with Cookies, a Rotterdam design and architecture collective, is built around an installation with an eclectic collection of art and everyday objects. The objects act as indices for various controversial points around the cultural production of (in) equality and serve to support stories about the contemporary struggle against injustice. The GRACE researchers have done fieldwork across Europe, coming into contact with people or communities who are fighting the fight for equality, but where the issue is also complex, for example because equality for one group means inequality for another. Objects from such situations have been collected and transformed into a labyrinthine installation, where the spectator is invited to view his own situation of (in) equality and to make contact with others.
