I've been getting a lot of DM's from people asking questions related to intercultural marriage, so I thought I'll write a post about it! As many of you know by now, im from Iraq and my husband is from Pakistan. When my husband asked for my hand, I accepted without hesitation. The fact that he's asian, and I'm arab, featured very little in my decision. I was was so pleased with his his character, that I knew he would make the best possible husband for me. Of course we sometimes have to defend our relationship against stupid stereotypes, but culture was never a thing between us.
As you can imagine, getting acceptance was a lot of work! Once a person does become involved in an interracial/intercultural marriage, the most important thing is to have patience. A lot of things will come your way, but you must persevere through them as a Muslim should. Islam is not only considered as a religion but a way of life. We are one Ummah, united by our faith. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught us that we would not be judged on the color of our skin but on our piety. it is important to accept and respect differences and not to make it a basis for problems. Acceptance is a very important factor when marrying a outside your culture and knowing that their ways are not wrong but they are just different. With all our differences, we still have the same ethics, morals, honor and love for Allah. One of the saddest things is the attitude people have towards interracial/intercultural couples of “let’s see how long that will last.” People will be expecting your marriage to fail. It’s not right, but it’s a reality.
Know that it will take time for the families of both parties to integrate and become comfortable with one another. The key is for both people to be willing to put up with that and work towards their ultimate goal of insha’Allah having a good Muslim family.

✊ Last time Noah was on a plane, he was 4 months old and despite everyone saying we were crazy, we did 3 trips with him at that age and it was a dream! He just slept the whole time 😂 I’m currently wondering what I’ve let myself in for - hoping he will sleep the whole way there but then that will mess up his routine.
