#tbt to an intimate studio visit I had with amazing Samantha @samantha_bittman . Her eyes tell me that she sees subtleties in colors like no other, and her paintings on weaves surfaces are, to me, provocative and mesmerizing. Loved seeing her studio, process, and work in person. And of course, the conversation on our mundane yet big choices we make as artists, settling in NYC, value of our time in the sacred studio space, tarot cards... was just very nice on Monday morning sometime back in September. . . . . . #studiovisit #samanthabittman #weaving #painting

Has someone who has lost weight ever said to you “Just do XYZ to get to where I am”? . . You follow the advice, but don’t get your hopeful transformation OR it doesn’t last😔 It's not because something is wrong with you, it’s because we can all eat exactly the same & still look different! . . The fact that someone is naturally thin or able to sustain weight loss (the rare ~5%) has to do with set weight point, a big genetic factor. And I know some may read this & say “what is she talking about! Healthy lifestyle changes clearly results in weight loss!”. . . My response 👇 . . ➡️ Some may experience weight loss as a *default* when they create healthy behavior changes. Likely because their set weight point is lower than what their current weight is. This is OK! Nondiet doesn't mean anti-weight loss ➡️ Some may NOT lose weight as they were either born with a higher set weight point OR chronic dieting & weight fluctuations have increased their set weight point (your body’s survival mechanism) & now their body fights to maintain the weight they are currently at. AND some may even gain weight if they have a history of consistently restricting themselves. This is also OKAY! ➡️ If healthy changes means cutting out whole food groups or swearing off sugar to reach a skirt size - ask yourself if this is really benefitting your health (mental, emotional, physical)or does it mean too many sacrifices? . . If you're naturally thin or sustained weight loss it doesn’t mean others can, too. Please understand that healthy behavior changes made for the purpose of intentional weight loss is in fact a diet & results in weight regain 95% of the time & 66% regain more than they lost. Diets fail, not you. Those who preach “If I can, so can you” need know that there are those who CAN’T through no fault of their own & that spreading this message perpetuates weight stigma & is damaging our health. . . You don't need to make weight loss your life's mission to prove to the world you are healthy! . . Let's shift the focus to actual HEALTH! You know what others CAN do? Healthy behavior changes they CAN control. Weight is not a behavior! . . What healthy BEHAVIORS can you focus on today?
