Chocolate treats at @honestchocolate in Cape Town. I made some brownies yesterday based on a recipe of my high school friend’s mom who’s American. Dude, loads of sugar and sunflower oil but so damn delicious. Think I’m back in the brownie game and will experiment a bit during these dark and grey winter times. Cause chocolate is everything, even more if it’s fair trade and made with love.
We were at this lovely wedding which took place at the @tokarawine estate in #stellenbosch . The weather was amazing and the food absolutely delicious! This springbok loin was definitely one of the best I ever had paired with sultana&apple, bobotie spiced carrot, apricot, toasted almond and bay leaf & clove infused jus. Perfection!
Not really the weather situation back in Europe, but one’s allowed to dream, right? ⛰
We started our dinner at @thali_capetown with some extra oysters with “curry dressing”. Sounding simple but man this was amazing! With curry leaves, saffron crispy onions and some other ingredients I don’t remember. The restaurant is located right off Kloof Street in Cape Town and they don’t take reservations. But the wait isn’t too long and their cocktails are amazing, too, so you’re not wasting a second of your time! I knew I’d love this place after enjoying lunch at @chefswarehousebeauconstantia (they have the same owner) a lot a year ago!
Another part of the menu was Oxtail Bunny Chow. Bunny Chow is a South African dish made by halving and hollowing a loaf of white bread and filling it with warm curry. This one was filled with super tender oxtail meat, butternut purée and edamame beans and finished off with a very tasteful sauce. @thali_capetown
An absolute favourite of mine: @thali_capetown, an Indian restaurant owned by @chefswarehouse_chef_liamtomlin. It’s a sharing plate concept for 48€ for two (we were 4). You get four different “courses” that are all mainly Indian cuisine but with inspiration from other Asian regions. And it’s so so so delicious!!! The first course was deep fried spinach bhaji, mint & coriander dressing, date and tamarind (omg!!!), Nigella seed Dal, pickled cauliflower, tikka cauli purée, peanut & coconut cauliflower salad and finally beef skewers in a ginger and tamarind glaze which came in a small tandoori oven, not in the photo - and that was just the first course! Guys I tell you, if you ever visit Cape Town, this place is a MUST!
It depends on your perspective whether it’s little hills or big mountains you have to climb ⛰💪
And a last one from @foxcroftfood in Constantia, Cape Town. What you don’t see here is that to the right they had a small room with homemade pickles and preserves. Everything is made with lots of love and attention to detail here.
“Just” to start with at @foxcroftfood. Homemade bread with virgin butter, buffalo labne (strained yoghurt) and garlic confit. I always stuff myself with bread at such places cause it’s soooo good. Are you any better in self-control? 😈
Another one from @foxcroftfood in Constantia, Cape Town. A tasting menu with delicious dishes is 495 Rand per person (around 31€). Fresh ingredients, lovely presentation, very friendly staff and above all a nice view over Constantia if you’re sitting outside. This was free range duck breast with grilled nectarine, grilled olive and thyme.
WE’RE EXCITED! This is the menu for our next Supper Club & Cooking Class! You can attend on 2nd or 26th February! All about 🍊🍋 citrus fruits in food. It’s delicious, fruity but not sweet and sometimes there’s just hints of it but makes all the difference. To save yourself a spot drop us a line at: email@example.com! It’s 48€ for plenty of food, drinks and stories about food. @srealsimplefood and I are looking forward to cooking with you!
And bought a bottle of this handcrafted Arancello for some Vitamin C 🍊 @hemelhuijs
The interior of @hemelhuijs is just pretty and a nice mix of details and understatement. The big eye catcher is definitely the carpet of differently coloured hortense flowers covering the ceiling.
My breakfast over a week ago at @hemelhuijs in Cape Town. One of the best breakfasts I had in a while with delicious bread made with anise, perfectly roasted artichokes, meaty bacon, poached eggs and a hollandaise with the perfect consistency and amount of acid. I also had coffee and a cold geranium honey tea with basil.
You choose from a wide range of different sea food at ‘The Codfather’ in Camps Bay. This South Coast rock lobster was the most delicious and lives 90-170m under the water surface - quite a hard catch! 🦞🦞
Back in Europe (Brussels & Bonn) but I have plenty of photos left to share with you from my trip to South Africa. This one is from a delicious lunch at ‘The Codfather’ in Camps Bay, Cape Town. You order by weight and everything comes grilled to you table. We had this gigantic South Coast rock lobster, calamari, king prawns and a piece of local fish. Del-fishious! 🦀🐠🐙🦑🦐🦞🐡
Happy New Year to everyone!Starting Mine with a sunny day. Never thought vegan ice cream could be that delicious 🍦 But @lifeunframed makes them so delicious! This one was coconut raspberry.
