8mi with 2X2mi. My daughter had a 2hr delay. So I decided to squeeze in this workout before I needed to get her ready for school. I was kind of dreading it on the treadmill, but once I got rolling my legs felt good and I felt strong. The problem was that the 3 year old was being really uncooperative. As usual I went through my series of questions with him before I got on the treadmill. Do you have to go to the bathroom? Do you want something to eat? Do you want me to build you a fort? And yes, a hidden talent I have is building forts 😂 His response to all questions- no. Lies of course! Within the first 3 miles I had to stop for all of those things as he threw a massive fit about each one. A treadmill is a life saver for moms. I’ve done tons of training on it, but it can also be frustrating. Thankfully things calmed down and I used my frustration as fire for the workout. I blasted my music and was happy with my paces. Now I’m thankful to have another workout complete.
Easy miles on the mill today. Photo from a snowy run last week. The kids are off today and the real feel temp is -11. So I had no issue with getting my 5 miles done on the treadmill. See my story for some treadmill workout ideas. Stay safe in the cold my friends.
Today was supposed to be a yoga/rest day. I did my normal Saturday tradition of making a giant stack of pancakes with the kids. Then my husband offered to take our son to run errands. I always feel like I have to make the most of any toddler free time that I get. So despite my belly full of pancakes, I decided to get on the treadmill and knock out tomorrow’s workout that I was kind of dreading. 2up, 6X800 w/ 2min recovery, 2 down for 8 total! I normally don’t eat much before treadmill speed work because I can find it nauseating. But thankfully I felt really strong for these. Happy that is done! Waiting for the weekend storms to roll in. And we are looking forward to taking our daughter to Cirque du Soleil this afternoon!
Twinning with @ginakriger84 for our long run today! So happy we were able to get this in before all of the crazy winter weather hits this weekend. Also proud of us for surviving the cold and improvising our route on the run as we still have snow from last weekend.
Nothing much to report. Just another day of #winterrunning . Marathon training is just about putting in the miles day after day. 5mi at an easy pace. I listened to the @rambling_runner podcast to keep me company and distracted. What an inspiring story with @txrunningmomof5! #keepshowingup
Do endorphins even work in the cold?! Asking for a friend 🥶 Today’s workout: 1.5 up, 4X1mi w/1min recovery, 2 down to 8mi. I feel like something shifted and my brain got back into training mode. I felt excited to tackle this workout today. And knowing that before Philly I had built up to 9X1mi ☠️ I knew that 4 wasn’t going to be bad. I was not excited about the cold and snow. When I got to the park I remembered the last time I did mile repeats here. It was an unseasonably hot fall day with temps in the 80s and pure sunshine. I believe I had 8 repeats that day. It has to be better than that! Thankfully it was! I also did a nice strength workout this morning. #winterrunning
Made it outside today! Cold, but tolerable and sunny! 🙌🏻☀️ 5 miles around the neighborhood. I figured I could use the hills after all of the treadmill miles recently. And after our weekend snowfall, I didn’t think the park paths would be clear. I tried to keep the pace easy, but felt so happy to be outside in the sunshine that it was hard. I just submitted my application for the NYC Marathon. Fingers crossed this will be my year to get in🤞🏻#winterrunning
Treadmill long run. 13 miles split into two 6.5mi sessions. I have run a ton of treadmill miles over the years due to weather and childcare. My longest treadmill run to date is 20 miles! I knew I could do the 13mi in one stretch, but this early on in training I didn’t want to punish myself that much. So my solution was to split the run. The first run was done while my son played. So I listened to music and watched his Mickey Mouse Clubhouse while he played with the promise of taking him outside to play in the snow after I finished. I started the second half just a couple hours later after I dropped him off at preschool. I once again counted on a Bravo TV show to keep me entertained. Is it ideal to do a long run on the treadmill? No. Is it ideal to split a long run? No. Am I a professional runner? No. Did I get my miles in today? Yes! Treadmill Running Tips ◾️Cover the screen so that you aren’t watching every tenth of a mile tick by. ◾️Listen to a podcast to keep your mind busy and motivation up. Some of my favorites are @rambling_runner, @run4prs, @themotherrunner. ◾️Save a favorite show to watch on the run. ◾️Have a good playlist. ◾️Play with the speed and incline. Try changing it every half mile, mile, etc. ◾️Have a water bottle and towel. You sweat a ton on the treadmill. I always have a bottle of @nuunhydration on my console. ◾️Practice mantras. One of my favorites is, “smooth, quick, light.” ◾️Think about form. I always practice running tall on the treadmill. ◾️Visualize success. Try to picture your race course, the time on the clock that you want to see, yourself crossing the finish line. ◾️If you have little ones, give them a snack, drink, etc to avoid having to make too many stops. Let your treadmill time be their screen time to use the iPad, watch a movie, etc. Bribe them 😂 I usually promise that once my run is done that we can play something special, etc. Do you have any treadmill tips to add? Have you ever done a long run on the treadmill or split a long run?
6 easy on the treadmill plus strength and core. I’m working on keeping that positivity flowing. So instead of being bummed out about the crappy weather and running on the treadmill today, I worked on putting a positive spin on it. I put on one of my favorite @baklinerunning shirts, @procompression @nuunhydration socks, and a sparkly @sweatybands headband. Wardrobe can make a difference I swear! There’s research on it! And I enjoyed being in my house ALONE (moms will get this) and watching one of my favorite reality tv shows @milliondollarlistinglosangeles! 6 more miles in the training bank 👊🏻
So thankful for this run! The weather was perfect and I felt really strong and nailed my workout! 2 up, 4 tempo, 2 down. Also big shout out to @run4prs! I listened to the first podcast and it was really great! I have to admit that though this training cycle just started, I’ve been feeling pretty negative. Every year since 2010 I’ve trained for a spring marathon (besides the two years that I was pregnant.) And every year I am full of doubt and questioning my ability to see it through. I really struggle through the winter months. But I told myself just take it day by day and week by week. I know that I will feel lost without the training. And I will continue to look to all of you for support, encouragement, inspiration, and motivation. ❤️ #tempotuesday
1 hour of easy running with @ginakriger84. It was so nice to get back to a regular schedule today as the kids are FINALLY back to school! I absolutely loved the holidays with them, but after awhile the chaos and fighting start to get to me. I thrive on a schedule and structure. I guess that’s why I like training so much!
Today’s run was a total physical and mental struggle. I think I’ve hit my post holiday blues. It happens every year. I hate winter and know that these next few months will be tough. My body just doesn’t feel good running in the cold. Then I made a bunch of choices that only made the run harder. I ran in my neighborhood out of convenience, but the hills here are really tough especially on a long run. I was feeling grumpy and decided to not bring my headphones. I’m sure listening to music would have helped. And I brought no fuel. I know that I can run 12 miles with no fuel, but should’ve put a Gu in my pocket just in case. Between my body working harder on the hills and to stay warm, I definitely needed it today. Lastly I’ve been trying some different shoes without my orthotics and my feet just didn’t feel good at all. Mostly I spent the run feeling annoyed with myself. Internal dialogue- You have too much experience to do this many dumb things. I guess lessons can always be learned (or relearned.)
5 easy miles plus a strength and core circuit. I wanted to share my @charitymiles 2,000 mile club shirt! Charity miles is an amazing app that lets you earn money (25 cents per mile) for a charity of your choice for every mile that you run! Since I started using the app, I’ve run over 2,000 miles for the charity Every Mother Counts. I hope you start using the app today! #charitymiles #everymothercounts
Mile repeats ☠️ on the treadmill ☠️ One stop to wipe my kid’s butt 🤦🏼♀️ Will they ever go back to school?! 7mi total for today. Mile repeats were always one of my most challenging workouts last fall. And I think one of the most important in my physical and mental gains. Not as fast as I was, but I’ll get back there. #milerepeats #momlife
Last run of 2018 and first run of spring marathon training! 6mi with 10X200. This picture is my favorite running moment of 2018!
Seven @onepeloton rides in December! You all know I’m a runner at heart. And while I was still chasing my mileage goal for the year this month, I always try to take a bit of a step back in December to allow my body some extra recovery time. I’ve enjoyed this time on my bike. And along with my many other goals for 2019 to become a better runner, I’m hoping to stay more dedicated to cross training. I also did a strength circuit and yoga for runners yesterday with my daughter! #pelotoncycle #crosstraining
